Eligible Apple customers can claim their share of a $95 million payout due to unintended Siri activations during private conversations from September 17, 2014, to December 31, 2024. This follows a 2019 class action lawsuit alleging privacy violations, where Apple captured user conversations without consent. Apple has apologized, stopped retaining recordings, and settled the case. Claims can be submitted for up to five Siri-enabled devices until July 2, 2025, with payouts capped at $20 per device. Notifications are being sent to those with Claim Identification Codes, but anyone who believes they qualify can apply.
Apple customers who meet the eligibility criteria can now apply for their portion of a $95 million payout related to Siri snooping. A dedicated website has been launched to facilitate the distribution of funds, allowing U.S. Apple device users who encountered unintentional Siri activations during private conversations from September 17, 2014, to December 31, 2024, to file a claim.
This payout stems from a class action lawsuit in 2019, which claimed that Apple violated user privacy by recording conversations captured by the Siri voice assistant without consent and sharing these recordings with third-party quality control teams. Apple publicly apologized and committed to no longer retaining user recordings, although it contested further claims that it allowed advertisers to target consumers based on data from Siri recordings. In January 2025, the company reached an agreement to pay $95 million to affected users to settle the lawsuit.
The application period is open until July 2, 2025. Users can submit claims for up to five Siri-enabled devices—including iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, HomePod, iPod touch, and Apple TV—if they attest that Siri was unintentionally activated on each of those devices. If claims are approved, settlement payouts will be limited to $20 per device.
Eligible owners of Apple devices who have already received a Claim Identification Code and Confirmation Code are being notified about the settlement. However, applications can still be made by anyone who believes they qualify, even if they didn’t receive a claim notice.
