In WPL 2025, the rule regarding broken stumps will change, as the traditional pre-existing condition will no longer apply. According to Appendix D of the tournament playing conditions, which was presented to teams before the season, when using Zing wickets, the moment the lights illuminate indicates the wicket has been broken. Subsequent frames will show the bails permanently removed from the stumps, signaling the end of play.
This indicates that the current playing condition, which specifies that the stumps are considered broken when the bails illuminate, will not apply in WPL 2025 moving forward. Appendix D of the tournament’s playing conditions, distributed to teams prior to the season, states: “when Zing wickets are in use, the instant the wicket is dislodged shall be regarded as the first frame in which the Zing lights activate, and the following frames will display the bail consistently absent from the top of the stumps.”
