It has successfully grossed over Rs 9 crore against a budget of Rs 4.55 crore, showcasing its popularity.
In addition to sharing a theatrical release date with Ponman, M. Mohanan’s directorial venture Oru Jaathi Jathakam will also have its OTT release on the same day as the Basil Joseph-starrer. Viewers will be able to stream this comedy flick on not one, but two platforms – ManoramaMAX and Amazon Prime Video – starting March 14, offering a fantastic opportunity for those who missed its theatrical debut.
Oru Jaathi Jathakam centers around Jayesh, a man in his late thirties, on a quest to find a woman in her twenties to marry. With his overly ambitious expectations, his prospects are dwindling – no matrimonial site can rescue him at this point. During a palm reading session, Jayesh learns that a wave of bad luck is approaching, complicating his pursuit of the “ideal woman.” The situation worsens when a horoscope indicates that he is fated for a gay marriage. The film features performances by Vineeth Sreenivasan, Nikhila Vimal, Babu Antony, P.P. Kunhikrishnan, and Mridul Nair.
This comedy also delves into deeper themes of misogyny and the unrealistic expectations men often have of women when selecting a future partner.
This is not Mohanan’s first collaboration with Vineeth and Nikhila. The three previously worked together on the director’s 2018 comedy-drama Aravindante Athidhikal. Additionally, Vineeth and Nikhila starred together in Vipin Das’s 2024 film Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil. Mohanan has also partnered with Vineeth’s father, veteran actor Sreenivasan, on multiple occasions, including films like Katha Parayumpol (2007) and My God (2015), as well as having a role in Aravindante Athidhikal.
Produced by Varnachithra Big Screen, the film has successfully doubled its budget at the box office, grossing over Rs 9 crore against an initial budget of Rs 4.55 crore.
