WhatsApp is developing a new privacy feature in its beta version for Android, which will be implemented over time. This feature allows users to prevent media they send from being auto-saved on recipients’ devices, similar to the existing disappearing messages function. Users will also have the ability to restrict the exporting of chat histories with those who activate this setting, though it won’t stop message forwarding. Additionally, enabling this “advanced chat privacy” will prevent chat participants from using Meta AI features. The rollout will be opt-in, and more enhancements may be added during development.
WhatsApp is currently developing a new privacy feature, which has been detected in the latest beta version for Android. This feature will undergo further development, so it’s not expected to be available immediately.
Once available, it will provide enhanced privacy options, preventing those you communicate with from automatically saving the media you send them on their devices.
Typically, WhatsApp automatically saves every media item received on your phone. However, with this new feature, you’ll have the ability to prevent the auto-saving of media on others’ devices, as shown in the screenshot above.
This functions similarly to the existing disappearing messages feature. The key addition here is that you will be able to apply this setting to regular messages and their related media as well. Furthermore, it will limit the exporting of entire chat histories for conversations with users who have activated this new privacy setting. It’s important to note that this won’t stop message forwarding.
Moreover, if you activate this “advanced chat privacy,” chat participants will be unable to utilize Meta AI in any capacity. Of course, WhatsApp may introduce additional features to this option while it continues to be developed. Regardless, upon its official launch, participation will be opt-in.
