Chipotle CEO announced the company will absorb tariff costs amid President Trump’s proposed tariffs impacting the U.S. economy. To celebrate National Burrito Day on April 3, Chipotle is reviving its digital game, Burrito Vault, offering over 150,000 Buy-One-Get-One free entrée codes starting March 31. Chipotle Rewards members must guess the exact burrito order to win, and the game features new code changes hourly. Reports of Chipotle planning to close restaurants or file for bankruptcy are false, originating from confusion over the closure of Farmesa Fresh Eatery, a test venture. Chipotle is reintroducing its popular digital game, Burrito Vault, offering more than 150,000 Buy-One-Get-One free entrée codes ahead of National Burrito Day on April 3.
Starting at 9 a.m. ET on Monday, March 31, Chipotle Rewards members in the U.S. and Canada can join the Burrito Vault game by visiting UnlockBurritoDay.com.
“Players need to guess the precise burrito order combination ingredient-by-ingredient to unlock the vault,” the company stated in a news release. “The first 2,500 Chipotle Rewards members who successfully crack the Burrito Vault Code each hour will earn prizes.”
Those who unlock the vault after all BOGO codes are claimed will receive 25 rewards points in the app, according to the chain.
“Last year, our Burrito Vault generated unmatched fan interaction resulting in our highest digital transaction day ever,” said Chris Brandt, Chief Brand Officer, in the release. “Now, we’re giving fans another opportunity to decode the vault and win more free burritos.”
The fast-casual Mexican food chain noted that the Burrito Vault was played over 2 million times in 2024, with prizes being claimed within 20 minutes. This year, the winning code will change every hour to distribute prize drops throughout the game duration.
No, Chipotle is not shutting down
Rumors of Chipotle filing for bankruptcy and closing restaurants in 2025 are merely rumors.
Speculation began on social media last week following a report from Spanish media outlet Unión Rayo concerning the closure of Farmesa Fresh Eatery, a pilot project in which Chipotle invested in 2023.
A promotional image from the story previously featured the Chipotle logo, as reported by Newsweek. Many users took to X to express their discontent over the supposed closures.
Chipotle spokesperson Erin Wolford denied the rumors last week, emphasizing that the “false information stemmed from a misleading article that confused Chipotle with a venture it tested in 2023.”
Chipotle contacted the international outlet to correct the misinformation and has since received an apology for the “misleading article” published last week. Unión Rayo did not respond immediately to USA TODAY’s request for comment last Tuesday.
