Washington:

US Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard announced on Monday (local time) that she has embarked on a multi-nation journey to the Indo-Pacific region, with stops in Japan, Thailand, and India.

Gabbard revealed that her initial destination was Honolulu, emphasizing the importance of “building strong relationships, understanding, and open lines of communication” to fulfill US President Donald Trump’s goals of peace, freedom, and prosperity.

In a post on X, Gabbard shared, “I am #WheelsUp on a multi-nation trip to the Indo-Pacific, a region I am very familiar with, having grown up as a child of the Pacific. I’ll be visiting Japan, Thailand, and India, with a quick stop in France on my way back to DC. Establishing strong ties, fostering understanding, and maintaining open communication are crucial to achieving President Trump’s aims of peace, freedom, and prosperity. My first stop is Honolulu, where I’ll connect with IC partners and INDOPACOM leaders, as well as our troops involved in training.”

Significantly, this marks the first visit by a senior White House official to India during the Trump administration.

Her trip to India comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US in February, during which PM Modi met with Tulsi Gabbard and referred to her as a “strong votary” of the India-US friendship.

Gabbard expressed that it was an “honour” to host PM Modi and noted her eagerness to further strengthen the US-India relationship.

This was PM Modi’s first trip to the United States since Donald Trump began his second term. During this visit, he met Donald Trump at the White House, marking the first interaction between the two leaders following Trump’s inauguration as the 47th US President on January 20. The two leaders shared a warm embrace as Trump welcomed PM Modi at the White House.

PM Modi was among the initial world leaders to visit the United States after President Trump’s inauguration and received an invitation to visit the US within just three weeks of the new administration taking office.
