Transform your MacBook trackpad into a drawing tablet using the SonarPen stylus.

The SonarPen 2, an affordable iPad stylus with pressure sensitivity, has introduced a new feature: the SonarPen Driver, which transforms your MacBook’s trackpad into a drawing tablet. While not as comfortable as traditional tablets, it’s cheaper and portable at $43. Compatible with macOS 11 or later, the stylus also works with devices like iPads and the Nintendo Switch. The original SonarPen can be adapted for use with a headphone jack version from 2018. It supports popular drawing apps, offers customizable pressure sensitivity, and comes with a shortcut button. Available on the company’s online store for $43.

Last year, the SonarPen 2 was introduced as the most cost-effective iPad stylus with pressure sensitivity. Now, the company has launched an intriguing update – the SonarPen Driver, which transforms your MacBook’s trackpad into a drawing tablet.

Apple’s laptop trackpads are quite spacious these days, making this concept feasible. While it may not be as comfortable as a traditional drawing tablet, it is more affordable and portable – the SonarPen for USB-C retails for $43 and can easily fit into your MacBook bag.

The stylus works with a new driver for macOS 11 or newer. Previously, it was compatible with iPads, Android devices, Chromebooks, and even the Nintendo Switch, so you might already own one. Keep in mind that it also supports the original SonarPen 3.5mm headphone jack model from 2018, but you’ll need an adapter ($9.45).

In any case, the SonarPen has been tested with Adobe Photoshop, Krita, GIMP, Clip Studio Paint, Artrage, MediBang Paint Pro, and several other applications (you can find the complete list of supported apps here). It includes a shortcut button and customizable pressure sensitivity.

You can purchase the SonarPen for USB-C on the company’s online store, priced at $43.
