MediaTek recently announced the Dimensity 9400e, a lower-bin version of its flagship Dimensity 9400 SoC, which follows the higher-end Dimensity 9400+ released earlier. The 9400e is expected to power the upcoming OnePlus Ace 5 device, alongside the existing Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro. Performance-wise, the 9400e is anticipated to surpass the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and the newly announced Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, positioning it as a competitive option against Qualcomm’s offerings. This strategy suggests MediaTek aims to provide high performance at a potentially lower price compared to Qualcomm’s 8 series.
You might be familiar with MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400, a flagship SoC released last year, along with its enhanced version, the Dimensity 9400+, which was introduced a few weeks ago. However, you might not have encountered the Dimensity 9400e, unless you’ve seen our recent article on the forthcoming vivo X200 FE that is rumored to feature this chip.
Essentially, the 9400e represents the lower-tier of the 9400 lineup—the 9400+ stands at the top, the 9400 is in the middle, and the 9400e occupies the lower-end segment while still maintaining high-end performance. Now, there’s speculation that OnePlus will incorporate the Dimensity 9400e into their upcoming Ace 5 device, which will complement the already released Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro.

Performance-wise, the Dimensity 9400e is anticipated to surpass that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which also implies it will outperform the newly announced Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. In our view, the 9400e appears to be a strategic response to Qualcomm’s 8s series, likely at a more competitive price (following the general pricing trends of the Dimensity 9 series compared to the Snapdragon 8 series).
