YouTuber-podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia was questioned by Maharashtra Cyber officials over his controversial remarks on Samay Raina’s show, “India’s Got Latent.” During the two-hour questioning, he admitted his mistake and claimed his comments, including a vulgar question about parents and sex, were inappropriate and unfunny. Allahbadia, known as “BeerBiceps,” had previously skipped summons by the agency. The Supreme Court granted him interim protection from arrest, calling his remarks “vulgar” and directing him to cooperate with investigators. Following the backlash, Raina removed the show’s episodes from YouTube. More than 50 others connected to the show have also been summoned.
Mumbai:
YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia was interrogated by Maharashtra Cyber officials for approximately two hours on Monday amidst controversy surrounding his inappropriate comments during comedian Samay Raina’s ‘India’s Got Latent’ show. He acknowledged his error in statements made before the investigating officer, explaining that he participated in the YouTube show because Mr. Raina is his friend, as per sources.
The 31-year-old also asserted that he did not receive any compensation for his appearance.
Mr. Allahbadia, known widely by his online name “BeerBiceps”, appeared at the cyber headquarters in Navi Mumbai after having previously evaded summons issued by the agency. He informed the officer that YouTubers often share friendly relationships and frequently appear on each other’s shows, sources indicated.
His controversial comments about parents and sex during an episode of ‘India’s Got Latent’, which included other content creators like Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija, also known as “The Rebel Kid” on Instagram, ignited significant backlash.
He had posed a provocative question to a contestant in the episode, asking, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” which was released earlier this month.
Following the uproar, he issued an apology, admitting that he “shouldn’t have said what he said.”
“My comment was not only inappropriate, but it also lacked humor. Comedy is not my strong suit. I’m sorry,” he expressed in a video statement.
Numerous complaints were lodged against him resulting from his remarks.
Recently, the Supreme Court granted Ranveer Allahbadia temporary protection from arrest, labeling his comments as “vulgar” and noting that he possessed a “dirty mind” that embarrassed society.
The court ordered Allahbadia to assist with the ongoing investigations and to surrender his passport to the Thane police to prevent him from leaving the country without authorization.
More than 50 individuals linked to the show, including guests, judges, social media influencers, and comedians, have been summoned by the Maharashtra cyber cell.
Samay Raina, who has now removed all episodes of the show from YouTube, has also been requested to appear before the cyber cell as soon as possible.
