Multiple manufacturers are racing to create the thinnest foldable smartphones, with Honor’s Li Kun claiming the Honor Magic V5 will be the lightest and thinnest. Set to launch next month, rumors suggest it will measure around 8.x mm when closed, compared to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7’s 8.9 mm and the Magic V3’s 9.2 mm. The V5 features a 5,950mAh battery, 66W charging, and a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. It will be available in Silk Road Dunhuang and Velvet Black, with satellite messaging support anticipated. The Z Fold7 is expected in July.
The competition is heating up as several manufacturers vie to create the slimmest foldable smartphone this year. Honor executive Li Kun has issued a challenge, declaring that “Honor will still be the lightest and thinnest.” This statement pertains to the Honor Magic V5 (which will not be known as the V4).
So, just how thin will it be? Officially, we only know that its launch is set for the end of next month.
According to rumors, the Honor Magic V5 is expected to measure 8.x millimeters when closed. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is reported to have a thickness of 8.9mm, as per Ice Universe, making it a close contest measured in tenths of a millimeter. For context, the Honor Magic V3 comes in at 9.2mm.
Honor Magic V5 (MBH-AN10) details on TENAA
It will feature a 5,950mAh battery (an upgrade from the 5,150mAh in the V3) with 66W charging capabilities, as confirmed by TENAA specifications. Additionally, reports from Experience More indicate that the V5 will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite (the 8-core variant). The smartphone will be released in a color palette of Silk Road Dunhuang (expected to be a warm, earthy shade) and Velvet Black. Allegedly, it will also support BeiDou satellite messaging.
Given that there hasn’t been any announcement regarding a major Honor event in the next few weeks, the Magic V5 is likely to debut next month. The Z Fold7 is anticipated to launch in July, by the way.
