Palghar:
A teenage boy was apprehended on Sunday for allegedly killing a 6-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, reportedly motivated by jealousy. A senior police officer stated that he was inspired by a Hindi movie that features a serial killer.
The girl’s remains were discovered at around 4:30 am on Sriram Nagar hillock, according to a Pelhar police station official.
“We have taken into custody a 13-year-old boy from Nalasopara. The victim is his cousin. He reportedly murdered her out of jealousy, believing that she was favored by everyone,” senior inspector Jitendra Vankute of Pelhar police station informed PTI.
“The girl went missing on Saturday evening, prompting her family to report to the police. CCTV footage from a nearby company’s premises captured the boy leading the girl away. Initially, he attempted to mislead the police but eventually admitted to the crime,” he added.
The official revealed that the juvenile strangled the girl and subsequently struck her face with a stone, inspired by the Hindi film ‘Raman Raghav’, which depicts a serial killer.
A murder case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and an investigation is ongoing, Mr. Vankute stated.
