Srinagar:
The remains of three civilians, including a 14-year-old boy, were discovered in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kathua district on Saturday, three days after they vanished in a region notorious for terrorist activity.
As per police reports, Yogesh Singh, Darshan Singh, and the minor Varun Singh were headed to a wedding when they went missing in Billawar town on Wednesday evening.
A large-scale search operation involving the Army and police was initiated to locate the missing individuals; one of them had contacted his family two days prior, stating they had lost their way in the forest on their way back.
However, their bodies were later located using drones in a body of water near the Lohai Malhar area, according to sources. The exact cause of death will be determined following a postmortem examination.
Yogesh and Darshan were from Marhoon, while Varun hailed from Dehota, all situated in Billawar.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson RS Pathania accused terrorists of committing a “cold-blooded murder.” He stated, “The initial evidence indicates that this tragic mass murder was carried out by militants. I assure you that the perpetrators will face justice. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, we are seeing the decline of terrorism.”
BJP legislator Satesh Sharma raised the matter in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Friday, saying, “I wish to inform the House about the three missing civilians. We demand answers from the government.”
Sources indicated that the area has a significant terrorist presence and has experienced several attacks over the past two years. Just last month, two civilians were also found dead in the same vicinity.
