Taskin Ahmed is the sole player in Grade A+ on BCB’s men’s contracts roster for 2025.

Taskin Ahmed is the sole player in the A-plus category of the BCB’s men’s central contracts for 2025, earning BDT 1 million monthly. The BCB shifted from format-based to grade-based contracts, aiming to better reward Test specialists. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and three others are in Grade A, earning BDT 800,000. Mushfiqur Rahim drops to Grade B due to his ODI retirement. New contracts include Nahid Rana in Grade B and newcomers like Jaker Ali in Grade C. Mahmudullah requested not to be considered after February 2025. Notable players like Shakib Al Hasan are absent from this year’s list.

Taskin Ahmed stands out as the only player in the A-plus category on the BCB’s men’s central contracts list for 2025. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has returned to categorizing players’ monthly salaries by grades, following a few years of contract distribution based on the formats in which players participated. This year, Taskin will earn BDT 1 million (approximately USD 8,200) monthly, after having been in the white-ball-only category last year.

Sources from ESPNcricinfo reveal that the BCB shifted its salary policy from a format-based system to a grade-based one to better support its Test specialists. Under the previous policy, the board struggled to appropriately reward players who excelled in Test cricket. Najmul Abedeen Fahim, the BCB’s cricket operations chairman, stated in a recent board meeting that the central contracts aim to benefit Test specialists.

Bangladesh’s captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, is listed among four cricketers in Grade A, where the monthly salary is BDT 800,000 (around USD 6,600). This marks a downgrade for a Bangladesh captain, who typically secures the top contract category under any policy.

Grade A also features Mushfiqur Rahim, but following his retirement from ODIs, he will shift down to Grade B, which offers a monthly salary of BDT 600,000 (approximately USD 4,900).

Speedster Nahid Rana has been included in Category B after his remarkable performance in 2024. He is one of four newcomers awarded a contract, alongside Jaker Ali, Tanzid Hasan, and Rishad Hossain, all of whom are in Grade C with a salary of BDT 400,000 (approximately USD 3,300) per month.

The BCB noted in its press release that Mahmudullah, who recently turned 39, has requested not to be considered for the central contracts list beyond February 2025.

Soumya Sarkar and Shadman Islam make their return to the BCB’s central contracts for the first time since 2021 and 2022, respectively.

Additionally, Shakib Al Hasan, Zakir Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Naeem Hasan, and Nurul Hasan, who had contracts last year, are not included in this year’s list.
