India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, extended his best wishes to the Men in Blue ahead of their ICC Champions Trophy final against New Zealand. He also praised Rohit Sharma’s fitness and leadership contributions in recent years, highlighting Sharma’s achievement of guiding India to the finals of all ICC tournaments during his captaincy. The match is set to take place on March 9 at the Dubai International Stadium. With India remaining unbeaten in the tournament and New Zealand showcasing a solid performance under Mitchell Santner’s captaincy, this clash is anticipated to be a thrilling rematch of their 2000 ICC Champions Trophy final, where New Zealand emerged victorious. The Men in Blue will be looking to make amends for their losses to the Blackcaps in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup semifinal and the 2021 ICC World Test Championship final.
In an exclusive conversation with ANI, Suryakumar expressed, “India has been performing exceptionally well. If they maintain this momentum, the final will just be another game. I hope every player, from number one to 15, along with the support staff, delivers their best.”
Addressing the recent comments and trolling regarding Rohit’s fitness, particularly from Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed, who referred to him as “fat” and labeled him India’s “most unimpressive captain” in a now-deleted post on X, Suryakumar emphasized Rohit’s accomplishment of leading India to the finals of all major ICC tournaments, including the ICC World Test Championship final 2023, ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final, ICC T20 World Cup 2024, and ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
“As a captain, he has taken us to four ICC event finals, which is significant for the country. Achieving this level of performance over 15-20 years is remarkable. I have observed his dedication closely, both in franchise and international cricket. He consistently ranks among the best. I wish him the best for the final,” stated Suryakumar.
Suryakumar most recently played an ODI under Rohit’s captaincy during the 2023 World Cup final against Australia in Ahmedabad. He has also clinched the T20 World Cup 2024 under Rohit’s leadership and has contributed significantly to the success of the Mumbai Indians (MI), winning multiple Indian Premier League (IPL) titles during this time.
