Over half of families in Delhi-NCR have reported viral illness symptoms, according to a LocalCircles survey. Specifically, 54% of households had members experiencing symptoms like cough, fatigue, and respiratory issues, largely affecting individuals over 50 and young children. Those with pre-existing medical conditions such as hypertension and diabetes are also at risk. Hospitals have seen an uptick in patients with pneumonia and bronchitis. The survey, which garnered over 13,000 responses, indicates a notable rise in illnesses compared to the previous survey in August 2024, where only 38% of households reported similar cases.
Since last month, over half of the families in Delhi-NCR have reported symptoms of viral illnesses. A survey conducted by LocalCircles indicates that around 54 per cent of families have one or more members exhibiting flu or viral fever symptoms attributed to seasonal changes.
Who is at risk for viral illnesses in Delhi-NCR
The survey reveals that individuals over the age of 50 and young children are particularly vulnerable to these viral illnesses, which can present symptoms such as headaches, cough, fatigue, slight fever, and various respiratory problems. Additionally, those with pre-existing conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, COPD, and heart-related issues are also likely to be impacted by these viral afflictions.
According to sources cited in the LocalCircles survey, hospitals have seen a surge in patients suffering from pneumonia and bronchitis due to severe infections.
The survey gathered over 13,000 responses from residents in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad. Among the participants, 63 per cent were men and 37 per cent were women.
54% of households impacted by viral illnesses
The survey included the question, “How many individuals in your household in Delhi NCR are currently experiencing one or more symptoms of Covid/flu/viral fever, such as fever, runny nose, sore throat, cough, headache, stomach problems, joint pain, body aches, respiratory issues, etc.?”
From the respondents, 9 per cent indicated that “4 or more individuals” in their household were experiencing symptoms of Covid/flu/viral fever. Conversely, 45 per cent reported “2-3 individuals” affected, while 36 per cent were relieved to state that “no one” in their households was suffering.
Comparing the results with the previous survey from August 2024, the recent data indicates a significant increase in reported illnesses, with 54 per cent of households now affected by COVID, flu, or viral fever, up from 38 per cent in August 2024.
Every participant was a verified citizen and was required to be registered with LocalCircles in order to contribute to the survey.
