Significant Setback for BCCI: Unable to Host Three India-Pakistan Matches in Asia Cup Because of…: Report

The India vs Pakistan match in the Champions Trophy 2025 ended in a dominant victory for India, winning by six wickets. Anticipation builds for potentially three more clashes between the two teams during the Asia Cup later this year, set to take place in T20 format from mid to late September. Although India was originally allotted the hosting rights, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has opted for a neutral venue, likely in Sri Lanka or the UAE, to mitigate tensions. The tournament will feature eight teams and is structured to maximize the odds of multiple India vs Pakistan encounters.

The Champions Trophy 2025 clash between India and Pakistan turned out to be quite one-sided. The team led by Rohit Sharma showcased their strength in every aspect, resulting in India defeating Pakistan by six wickets. According to reports, fans could be treated to three additional India vs Pakistan games later this year as part of the Asia Cup. This year’s continental tournament, set to be played in T20 format, will feature 19 matches and is expected to take place between the second and fourth weeks of September, as reported by Cricbuzz.

As per the report, the Asia Cup 2025 was initially assigned to India, but due to the rivalry between India and Pakistan, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has opted to host it in a neutral venue. While the exact location remains undecided, Sri Lanka and the UAE are being considered as potential hosts. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will still act as the designated organizers.

In the Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan is the designated host. However, India will not participate on Pakistani soil after the BCCI chose not to send its team, resulting in a significant dispute between the two nations, leading to India’s matches being relocated to Dubai.

“A key recent decision by the ACC was to hold the tournament in a neutral country if it is the turn of either the BCCI or the PCB to host it. A document in the possession of this website states clearly,” the report mentioned.

“This decision is understandably aimed at preventing any controversy arising from the reluctance of India and Pakistan teams to travel to each other’s countries.”

Eight teams – Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong, along with India and Pakistan – will participate in the Asia Cup 2025.

Typically, the Asia Cup is divided into two groups of four teams each, with India and Pakistan consistently placed in the same group. The top two teams from each group advance to the Super Four stage, and subsequently, the top two teams in the Super Four proceed to the finals. The groupings are generally structured to ensure a high likelihood of at least two India vs Pakistan matches, and potentially a third if both teams reach the final.
