Building on his outstanding performance in the ODI series versus England last month, Indian top-order batsman Shubman Gill has been put forward for the ICC ‘Player of the Month’ for February, alongside Australia’s Steve Smith and New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips. Currently in Dubai with the Indian team for the ongoing Champions Trophy, Gill amassed 406 runs with an average of 101.50 and a strike rate of 94.19 over five ODIs in February. Following that, Gill made an unbeaten 101 against Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy and contributed a crucial 46 against Pakistan, helping India reach the semifinals of this prestigious tournament.

On the other hand, Australia’s captain Smith impressed in the Test series against Sri Lanka, with scores of 141 and 131 in the two matches played, achieving a strike rate of 136.00 and was named ‘Player of the Series’ for his performance.

In the one-day series, he managed scores of 12 and 29.

Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Phillips scored 236 in five ODIs at a strike rate of 124.21. His three unbeaten innings were vital in leading New Zealand to victory in the tri-series hosted in Pakistan, which also included South Africa.
