Season three of HBO’s “The White Lotus,” a critically acclaimed anthology series by Mike White, has concluded, but season four is confirmed. The third season explored themes of spirituality in Thailand, while the upcoming season’s location remains undisclosed, though it is likely to be a temperate climate. HBO executives suggest a possible return to Europe. The cast for season four isn’t announced yet, but White has expressed interest in an all-star edition featuring previous cast members. Notably, composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer will not return for the next season. Filming has not started, so a release date is yet to be determined.
The conclusion of season three of HBO’s “The White Lotus” has arrived, but the sharp anthology series will return for more adventures.
The Emmy-winning production, crafted, penned, and helmed by Mike White, enjoyed an early renewal in January, just weeks ahead of season three’s premiere.
Now that the eight-episode third season has finished, all attention shifts to the next destination for the series.
Here’s everything we currently know about season four of “The White Lotus.”

Season one was set in Hawaii, while season two took place in Sicily, Italy, and the third season, which explores spirituality, was filmed in Thailand.
Although the next season’s location remains a mystery, “White Lotus” producer David Bernad mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter on April 2 that it is likely to be somewhere warm.
“I would bet $100,000 that we don’t go to a cold place next. Even if we entertained the idea, Mike simply wouldn’t want to go cold. He despises it,” Bernad shared.
Just days before the premiere of season three in February, Francesca Orsi, HBO’s executive vice president overseeing dramas and films, informed Deadline that Europe could be a potential return location.
“We’re planning some location scouting in the coming weeks, so we’ll know soon. I can’t disclose our destination yet, but there’s a strong possibility it could be somewhere in Europe,” she noted.
Recently, White gave a vague response regarding the location for season four when he told Deadline that he aims to steer clear of “the crashing waves of rocks vernacular.”

While casting hasn’t commenced yet, eager actors are already attempting to land roles for season four.
Casting director Meredith Tucker revealed to THR that an agent reached out recently, concerned because their client heard that another individual had secured an audition for season four. Tucker emphasized that she is focused on wrapping up season three before turning her attention to the next installment.
“He has not penned a single thing,” Tucker said, referring to White. “What are these folks talking about? Please don’t contact me until after this season is finished.”
Although it’s premature to determine the cast for season four, White mentioned to THR in 2023 that he would enjoy creating an all-star season featuring returning actors.
“If the show continues for a couple more seasons, it would be entertaining to have an all-star edition,” he commented.
Two years later, he still feels the same.
“I would love to make that happen,” White expressed in the April 2 interview with THR.
Composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer announced he won’t return for season 4
HBO
Cristóbal Tapia de Veer has served as the composer for “The White Lotus” since its inaugural season, crafting the main title theme music for each season.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, published Wednesday, Tapia de Veer disclosed that he will not be returning for season four. He also mentioned having creative disagreements with White during the series.
Tapia de Veer revealed to the NYT that White was not fond of the theme he created for season one and required persuasion to approve it.
He confirmed that he informed the “The White Lotus” team of his exit months ago, yet “didn’t tell Mike for various reasons.”
“I wanted to save it for the end for the shock value,” he said. “Although I told the entire editorial crew, music editor, and producer, I didn’t anticipate they would inform him. Eventually, he caught wind of it.”
Representatives for “The White Lotus” did not respond promptly to Business Insider’s inquiry for comments.

White mentioned to THR that he has already experienced “pressure from HBO” regarding season four. However, he acknowledged that there has been no progress on location scouting, indicating that the release of season four won’t happen anytime soon.
“When they have something they’re eager about, they want to release it quickly,” he stated about the network. “We were set to begin scouting in April, but I was like, ‘Guys, I haven’t been home for three years.’
