Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy Z Fold7 around July, with leaked CAD-based renders revealing a thinner design in response to trends set by Chinese competitors. The Fold7 is expected to measure 4.5mm thick when unfolded and 9.5mm folded, rivaling Oppo’s Find N5. The device will feature an 8.2-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch cover screen, with dimensions suggesting a wider aspect ratio. However, the 4,400 mAh battery capacity remains unchanged. Camera upgrades include a new 200 MP main sensor, alongside a 12 MP ultrawide and 10 MP telephoto camera. The Fold7 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
Samsung is anticipated to launch the Galaxy Z Fold7 around July, and today we have the first-ever leaked renders supposedly showcasing the forthcoming foldable device. These are based on CAD designs, meaning some minor details might still change, but they provide a solid preliminary look at what Samsung is working on.
It appears that the South Korean company has finally taken notice of the current trend of foldables becoming progressively thinner. This trend has been set in motion by its Chinese rivals, with Oppo’s newly revealed Find N5 currently holding the title for the world’s thinnest book-style foldable.
The Fold7 may not quite surpass Oppo, but thankfully it will come close—likely close enough for most users. It is reportedly 4.5mm thick when unfolded and 9.5mm thick when folded. This thickness supposedly includes the camera bump, and when disregarding that, the thickness should be “more like 9mm,” although exact measurements are unfortunately not specified.
For comparison, the Oppo Find N5 measures 4.2mm thick when unfolded and 8.9mm when folded. Minor differences in millimeters are typically hard to notice in daily use, so effectively, Samsung’s next book-style foldable will feel nearly equivalent to the Find N5 in terms of thickness. However, the aspect ratio also plays a role, though the exact dimensions remain unclear.
Reportedly, the Fold7 when unfolded is said to measure 158.4 x 143.1 mm, making it slightly taller and over 1cm wider than its predecessor, indicating that we might see a wider aspect ratio for the cover display.
While these updates are promising, the fact that the battery capacity will remain at 4,400 mAh is less encouraging, especially considering that competitors are fitting 5,600 mAh batteries in similar devices. The Fold7 is expected to feature an 8.2-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch cover screen, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
Regarding cameras, the main camera will be upgraded to a 200 MP sensor from the Galaxy Z Fold SE. It will include a 12 MP ultrawide camera and a 10 MP telephoto lens, while the selfie cameras seem to remain the same as the Fold6, featuring a 4MP under-display camera in the folding screen and a 10MP camera on the cover display.
