Russia’s foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on a confrontational exchange between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, praising Trump for showing “restraint.” She criticized Zelensky’s claim of Ukraine being alone in 2022 as his “biggest lie.” Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev described Zelensky as an “insolent pig” and remarked on his perceived defeat in the Oval Office. Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, deemed the incident “historic,” highlighting its significance within the context of recent Russian-American talks since the Ukraine offensive began in 2022.
On Friday, Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman for Russia’s foreign ministry, remarked that US President Donald Trump displayed “restraint” by refraining from physically confronting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during their heated exchange at the White House.
“I believe Zelensky’s most significant falsehood among his many lies was his claim in the White House that the Kyiv regime in 2022 was entirely unsupported,” she stated on Telegram.
“The fact that Trump and Vance managed to hold back from striking that disgrace is a remarkable display of self-control,” she added.
Dmitry Medvedev, the former President of Russia and now the deputy head of Russia’s Security Council, described Zelensky as an “insolent pig” who faced “a proper smackdown in the Oval Office”.
Kirill Dmitriev, who leads the Russian Direct Investment Fund, characterized the intense confrontation between Trump and Zelensky as “historic”.
Dmitriev was among the negotiators representing Moscow during the Russian-American discussions held on February 18 in Saudi Arabia, marking the first talks since Russia commenced its offensive in Ukraine in 2022.
