The offensive players are still getting to know their new quarterback, Russell Wilson, whom they’ve admired from afar for years. Second-year tight end Theo Johnson expressed excitement about Wilson’s deep knowledge and passion for football, believing he will positively impact the team. Additionally, the Giants welcomed new defensive players, cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevón Holland, who humorously referred to their past encounters, including Holland’s impactful plays against Wilson’s former team. Safety Tyler Nubin also acknowledged Holland’s talent, sharing his admiration for his play style. Coach Daboll emphasized the importance of building relationships among players.
Although many offensive players are well-acquainted with each other, their familiarity doesn’t extend to the crucial position at the heart of the game – at least on a personal level. Most of them have been following Wilson and Winston from afar on television for years.
“I’m really looking forward to collaborating with him,” said second-year tight end Theo Johnson, who was nearing his 13th birthday when Wilson clinched Super Bowl XLVIII. “In the little time we’ve spent together so far, I believe he’s going to be not only a tremendous asset for our offense but also for the entire team. … From the very first conversation, it was clear he has a deep knowledge of the game, but what stood out most to me was his enthusiasm. He truly loves football and every facet of it, which is contagious and will have a positive effect on our locker room with his enthusiasm and passion for the sport.”
The quarterbacks are not the sole newcomers. The Giants started free agency by acquiring cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevón Holland, who notably forced three fumbles in a game against Wilson’s Broncos in 2023.
The two shared some laughs about that in the locker room this morning.
“He’s a skilled player, Holland,” Wilson remarked. “He’s made quite an impact. We’re thrilled to have him on board.”
Holland’s mother is a “huge Seahawks supporter,” and his father has ties with the 49ers, so the native of the Bay Area is well-acquainted with Wilson. Meanwhile, his new partner in the backfield is equally knowledgeable about Holland.
“It’s amusing; I’ve actually been following Jevón for quite some time, since my college days,” said second-year safety Tyler Nubin. “I feel like we share similar styles of play and body types. He’s a taller, larger guy. I’ve always admired his style of play. So, I was thrilled to learn he would be joining our team, without a doubt.”
The coaching staff resonates with that sentiment.
“Having the players in the facility is always a positive,” Daboll stated.
