Rumored Weight of iPhone 17 Air Alongside Silicon-Carbon Battery and Unique Frame Material

The upcoming iPhone 17 Air, debuting this September, is expected to weigh between 145g and 150g, making it lighter than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. It will feature a 7000 series aluminum frame, contributing to its reduced weight. Key components include a 35g OLED display, a 5-7g 48 MP rear camera, and a 15g glass back. The battery will likely be under 3,000 mAh, utilizing Si/C technology. Notable features include a 24 MP selfie camera, 8GB RAM, 120 Hz OLED screen, Dynamic Island, Face ID, wireless charging, and global eSIM support, maintaining a slim profile at 5.5 mm.

The iPhone 17 Air is set to launch this September, taking the place of the iPhone 16 Plus. A recent report sheds light on its weight, which is expected to be around 146g. Previous reports have suggested weights of 145g and 150g, so it’s reasonable to conclude that the final weight will fall within the 145g to 150g range.

This means the iPhone 17 Air will be lighter than Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge. This reduction in weight can be attributed to Apple’s choice of materials; instead of a titanium frame like Samsung’s, it will feature the lighter 7000 series aluminum. The frame is estimated to weigh between 25-30g. The OLED display adds about 35g, while the single 48 MP rear camera contributes 5-7g. The A19 chip and logic board together weigh approximately 10-12g, and additional components, including the MagSafe module, also total around 10-12g, with a 15g glass back and a 35g battery rounding things out.

In other news, reports suggest that Apple plans to implement Si/C technology to enhance the iPhone 17 Air’s battery performance. Although the exact capacity remains unclear, most leaks indicate it will be below 3,000 mAh, likely around 2,800-2,900 mAh. There are also rumors of Apple providing a battery case for the device, which would contradict its hallmark of extreme thinness. The iPhone 17 Air is projected to be 5.5 mm in thickness, surpassing the Galaxy S25 Edge in this regard.

Additionally, the iPhone 17 Air is rumored to feature a 24 MP selfie camera, 8GB of RAM, an OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, Always-On functionality, Dynamic Island, Face ID, wireless charging capabilities, and global eSIM support.
