Meanwhile, Virat Kohli became the Indian cricketer with the most ODI catches, surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin with 158 catches after taking two in the match. Rohit Sharma made a dazzling start during India’s chase in the Champions Trophy 2025 match against Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday. Targeting a score of 242, Rohit showcased his aggressive style before being dismissed for 20 off just 15 balls. In the second over, he attacked Naseem Shah, hitting a boundary over the slip cordon, followed by a powerful six over deep backward square. Rohit instinctively seized a back of a length delivery and launched it for a maximum, thrilling the crowd and causing his wife, Ritika Sajdeh’s reaction, to trend on social media.

Naseem Shah to Rohit, SIX, what a shot!! A back of length delivery angling onto the thigh pad, Rohit Sharma anticipates the length early and sends it soaring into the second tier beyond deep backward square leg. Naseem Shah to Rohit, FOUR, a good length delivery aimed at the stumps, Rohit Sharma creates space for a big slash. He edges it, and it flies over first slip for a boundary. That’s classic Rohit; he shrugs it off and strolls towards his partner while Naseem looks on in disbelief!

Returning to the match, Virat Kohli made history by surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin, now holding the record for the most catches as a fielder for India in ODIs, with 158 catches during the Champions Trophy 2025 Group A match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.

Kohli, aged 36, achieved this milestone by catching Naseem Shah off Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling in the 47th over. He added another catch of Khushdil Shah in the final over, enhancing his record further.

Others on this prestigious list include Mohammad Azharuddin (156), Sachin Tendulkar (140), Rahul Dravid (124), and Suresh Raina (102).

Kohli, the third-highest run-scorer in ODIs after Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara, is just 15 runs shy of the coveted 14,000 ODI run milestone.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Pakistan’s batters started well but could not maintain a steady run rate, managing a prominent 104-run partnership between Saud Shakeel (62) and Mohammad Rizwan (46), although it was slow-paced.

From 151-2, Pakistan appeared set to exceed 250 runs, but India sparked a batting collapse, bowling them out for 241.
