Report: Netflix to Reduce Liam Payne’s Role in Upcoming Reality Series

Netflix is reconsidering the amount of footage featuring Liam Payne in the upcoming talent competition, Building The Band, following his tragic death. Filming had been ongoing when Payne passed away after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. As a guest judge, alongside Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland, his involvement raised concerns among Netflix executives regarding potential viewer backlash. They aim to balance honoring Payne’s contributions while being sensitive to his loved ones. His last projects include this reality show and the song “Do No Wrong.” Payne first gained fame on The X Factor in 2008 before joining One Direction.

Netflix is contemplating reducing the scenes featuring One Direction star Liam Payne in the upcoming talent competition Building The Band, concerned about potential viewer backlash. In the weeks before his passing, Mr. Payne had been filming the reality series that follows solo singers as they strive to form the next great band without ever meeting, according to a report from Metro.

Mr. Payne participated as a guest judge on the show, alongside Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland, with AJ McLean serving as host. Following Mr. Payne’s death, the show’s future has been paused, but it is anticipated to be released on the streaming platform later this year.

“The sentiment among Netflix executives is that they wish to proceed with caution, and if that entails featuring Liam in fewer scenes, then they are prepared to make that choice,” a television insider reported to the publication.

“They aim to find the right equilibrium between his presence in the show, engaging in what he loved, and having him appear excessively, which would be difficult for his loved ones to handle.”

It is worth noting that the reality series was among the last projects of the singer, along with the song Do No Wrong featuring North Carolina artist Sam Pounds. Reports suggest that Mr. Payne relished his time on the show and wished to continue collaborating with the bands even after production concluded.
