Released Israeli Hostage Kisses the Forehead of Hamas Fighters

Hamas released three more Israeli hostages—Omer Wenkert, Omer Shem Tov, and Eliya Cohen—to the Red Cross in Nuseirat. During their release, Shem Tov kissed the foreheads of two Hamas members and appeared cheerful as he waved on stage. His father described him as upbeat despite losing weight, emphasizing his positive spirit. The hostages had been held for 505 days before returning to Israel, where they arrived at an IDF facility for assessments. Malki Shem Tov noted that Omer’s friendly demeanor resonated even with his captors, showcasing his universally likable personality.

In the latest exchange, Hamas released three additional Israeli hostages to the Red Cross. The hostages are Omer Wenkert, Omer Shem Tov, and Eliya Cohen. They were escorted by Hamas and presented on stage in the town of Nuseirat, where they waved and displayed their release certificates before being handed over to Red Cross officials.

A Red Cross convoy later transported the hostages away from the ceremony.

According to The Times of Israel, Malki Shem Tov, Omer’s father, noted that his son’s joyful appearance upon release reflects his character. “Omer is thinner… but is upbeat, the most positive-minded person in the world,” Shem Tov shared during a video call with Channel 12.

“We had no idea what to expect when he came out. He surprised us all with his smile and wave — it’s just unbelievable,” he remarked.

“That’s Omer,” he continued… “He’s just that kind of kid… He gets along with everyone. Even Hamas… they have affection for him there.” Omer’s brother added, “He’s always, always positive.”

According to the IDF, the released hostages Omer Shem Tov, Eliya Cohen, and Omer Wenkert endured 505 days in Hamas captivity before crossing back into Israel.

The freed hostages have been taken to an IDF facility for physical and psychological evaluations.
