Nikunj Gupta, the chief minister’s son, also praised the BJP’s decision to appoint a woman as the leader of the Delhi government.

“It is commendable that a woman has been given the role of chief minister. We believe she will manage her responsibilities exceptionally well. Her three decades of hard work have proven to be fruitful,” said Nikunj Gupta about his 50-year-old mother.

“She has put in immense effort and achieved this all on her own. She began her journey with DUSU… We extend our gratitude to PM Modi, the party, and everyone who has provided her this opportunity,” he added, referencing the Delhi University Students’ Union, or DUSU.

Rekha Gupta has previously held the position of general secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha in the national capital and was part of its national executive committee. During her tenure, she conducted various campaigns for the benefit of marginalized communities and women.

“This feels like a miracle, a fresh motivation, and a new chapter. If I can be the chief minister, it means all paths are open for women… Anyone involved in corruption will be held accountable for every single rupee,” Rekha Gupta told news agency ANI, expressing gratitude to the BJP for entrusting her with the governance of the national capital.

“This is a significant responsibility. I appreciate PM Modi and the BJP leadership for their confidence in me… I will carry out my duties with utmost sincerity… My primary focus is to fulfill all the commitments made by our party, and secondly, all our 48 MLAs will work as Team Modi. I never imagined I would become the chief minister of Delhi,” she stated.

Alongside Rekha Gupta, six other ministers took their oaths today. They include her deputy Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh.

The BJP returned to power in Delhi after a 26-year hiatus, securing 48 seats in the 70-member assembly, while former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) saw a steep decline, winning only 22 seats after dominating the previous two elections.

This marks the third time that Congress has failed to win a single seat in Delhi.
