Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson’s bond is truly pitch-perfect.
Their collaboration for Splash Refresher, showcasing their natural chemistry and improvisational talents in a comedic new advertisement, felt like an obvious choice for the two actresses, as they tell PEOPLE. “We lead very busy lives,” Wilson, 45, states. “Then we reconnect and do something enjoyable like this.”
“It’s wonderful when contrasting personalities come together and it takes time to grow really close,” Kendrick, 39, adds. She reminisces about their initial camaraderie during the breakout success of Pitch Perfect in 2012, saying, “We got along and were friendly, but over time, our differences have come to be seen as a positive addition to my life.”
Kendrick emphasizes that the “gift” of the a cappella musical comedy and its sequels in 2015 and 2017 was how “all these diverse women came together as a family.” Wilson concurs: “We come from such varied backgrounds and personalities. Yet something magical happened, uniting us as a group. It’s astonishing.”

“So I think I only started drinking water — ” Wilson continues, leading Kendrick to finish her thought: “When it was flavored.”
“Exactly,” Wilson agrees. “This product is excellent for those who find plain water too mundane. They don’t want to chug it down; they prefer something with a little flair, a bit of excitement. That’s Splash.”

How did these two cultivate their friendship? “I remember meeting Anna during Pitch Perfect 1,” Wilson reminisces. “She was clearly the star of the cast, having just been nominated for an Academy Award [for the 2009 film Up in the Air], and we were just, I don’t know, fresh out of theater… I felt quite intimidated for a week.”
“A week? That long?” Kendrick asks, surprised. “Yes,” Wilson replies. “Then we ended up singing, dancing, and rolling around on the floor.”
Kendrick nods, adding, “The rehearsal process truly levels the playing field.”

The three Pitch Perfect films, featuring Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, Alexis Knapp, Ester Dean, Hana Mae Lee, Skylar Astin, Adam Devine, John Michael Higgins, Elizabeth Banks, and more, have inspired frequent queries from fans: What’s the update on a potential fourth movie? With Kendrick making her directorial debut in last year’s The Woman of the Hour and Wilson directing the upcoming The Deb, could either take the helm for it?
“Whenever anyone asks, I say, ‘Someone should ask Rebel Wilson,’ because she seems to manifest these things,” Kendrick responds.
“Anna and I are in a friendly competition to see who will be the director,” Wilson jokes, having previously teased the idea of a Pitch Perfect 4. “I’m kidding! I’m kidding.”
“Can you envision what a disaster that would turn out to be?” Kendrick quips.
