Yashasvi Jaiswal will miss Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy semi-final against Vidarbha due to a right ankle injury sustained during training. Initially selected for India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad, he was dropped in favor of Varun Chakaravarthy. Jaiswal, a Test regular and recent ODI debutant, is now expected to return home as a non-travelling reserve. Mumbai will not replace him for the semi-final, relying on players like Ajinkya Rahane and Suryakumar Yadav. This match is a rematch of last year’s title clash, with Vidarbha in strong form, having won seven of eight matches this season.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has been withdrawn from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy semi-final match against Vidarbha, which begins on Monday in Nagpur, due to a right ankle injury sustained during training this weekend.
Initially included in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad, Jaiswal was replaced at the last minute by Varun Chakaravarthy. He was designated as a non-travelling reserve but is now anticipated to return home.
Mumbai will not be seeking a replacement for Jaiswal in the semi-final, as they believe they have sufficient resources, including Ajinkya Rahane, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Shardul Thakur. Among these players, Dube is also listed as a non-travelling reserve for India’s Champions Trophy team and will head to Dubai if necessary.
A regular in India’s Test lineup, Jaiswal recently made his ODI debut against England in Nagpur earlier this month, stepping in for Virat Kohli, who was sidelined due to a knee issue. Jaiswal scored 15 runs in that outing.
In the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season, Jaiswal has participated in only one match—a group fixture against Jammu and Kashmir—where he scored 4 and 26 runs in two innings, while Mumbai lost by five wickets.
Defending champions Mumbai have faced challenges in the Ranji Trophy this season. They narrowly advanced to the quarter-finals, and once again found themselves in a precarious position against Haryana, before being rescued by a strong performance from their lower order in the first innings.
Mumbai’s semi-final against Vidarbha will be a rematch of last year’s title clash. Vidarbha is displaying remarkable form, having claimed outright victories in seven of their eight matches this season. They enter the game after defeating Tamil Nadu by 198 runs in the quarter-final.
