A man suspected of raping a 26-year-old woman inside a bus at Pune’s Swargate bus station was arrested in Shirur Tehsil on Friday, according to police.
The suspect, identified as Dattatray Gade, was apprehended by Pune Police around midnight in Shirur Tehsil.
The incident reportedly took place early Tuesday morning when the woman was assaulted by Gade (37) inside an ST bus.
Gade has a criminal record, with multiple charges including theft, robbery, and chain-snatching across Pune and Ahilyanagar district. He has been on bail since 2019 for one of these offenses.
To capture the suspect, thirteen police teams were deployed at various locations throughout the state.
The police also employed sniffer dogs and drones in a search operation conducted in the sugarcane fields of Shirur Tehsil, Pune district, on Thursday.
