Google has introduced a new feature via Gemini that allows users to add events to Google Calendar directly from Gmail. It detects calendar-related content in emails, prompting an “Add to calendar” button to appear. Users can click it to confirm the event via a side panel. This feature is currently limited to English and Gmail’s web interface, and will not trigger for emails with pre-detected events like reservations. The rollout begins today and is expected to complete by mid-April, but is exclusive to Google Workspace Business or Enterprise accounts, Gemini Education Premium add-ons, or Google One AI Premium subscribers.
Google has revealed that with the introduction of Gemini, you can now conveniently add an event to Google Calendar directly from an email in Gmail. This feature functions because Gemini will automatically identify “calendar-related content” within your emails.
When such content is detected, an “Add to calendar” button will show up. By clicking this button, a side panel will pop up for your confirmation. This feature complements the existing capability to inquire with Gemini about details in your Google Calendar, which has been available in Gmail since November.
The new functionality is currently limited to English and is only accessible through Gmail’s web interface. The “Add to calendar” button will not be visible for emails that have already had events automatically extracted, such as restaurant bookings or flight details. Additionally, a calendar event created using this new button will not allow for the inclusion of other guests.
The rollout began today and is expected to be completed for all accounts by mid-April. It’s important to note that this feature will only be available if you possess a Google Workspace Business or Enterprise account, a Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium add-on, or if you are subscribed to Google One AI Premium.
