Netflix has reportedly removed all scenes of Urvashi Rautela from the film “Daaku Maharaaj” just before its streaming release on February 21, causing controversy among fans. The official poster for the film features other actors prominently but excludes Rautela despite her significant role and previous promotion of the movie. The decision led to confusion and humor on social media, prompting Netflix to share individual character slides with her image to address the oversight. Rautela had also faced backlash for her controversial comments related to a stabbing incident involving Saif Ali Khan, which many found insensitive.
New Delhi:
In an unexpected development, Netflix is said to have removed all of Urvashi Rautela’s scenes from the movie Daaku Maharaaj.
A source associated with the situation indicates that the renowned streaming service eliminated her scenes just prior to the film’s streaming premiere. This abrupt choice has ignited a wave of discontent among fans and supporters of the actress, who are voicing their displeasure regarding the decision. Recently, Netflix announced that the Telugu-language action-drama Daaku Maharaaj, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, will be accessible for viewing on its platform starting February 21.
However, the promotional poster for the streaming launch raised questions online. While prominently showcasing actors like Bobby Deol, Pragya Jaiswal, and Shraddha Srinath, it conspicuously left out Urvashi, even though she played a key role in the film and actively promoted it. This exclusion quickly led to a barrage of reactions on social media, with fans expressing their confusion and humorously questioning the absence of the lead actress from the official poster.
To address the issue, the streaming platform subsequently released individual character slides, which included Urvashi Rautela’s image twice, seemingly to compensate for the previous oversight.
Daaku Maharaaj, directed by Bobby Kolli, also features Rishi, Chandini Chowdary, Pradeep Rawat, Sachin Khedekar, Shine Tom Chacko, Viswant Duddumpudi, Aadukalam Naren, and Ravi Kishan in prominent roles.
The film premiered globally on January 12, 2025, coinciding with Sankranti. Notably, the Sanam Re actress played a pivotal role in the film’s promotional campaign, often highlighting its impressive box office collection of Rs 105 crore. However, her participation in the promotional efforts became controversial when she drew attention for her comments on the stabbing incident involving Saif Ali Khan. In her statements, she referenced her luxury gifts, which sparked widespread backlash and criticism from the public.
While denouncing the attack, Urvashi also displayed her diamond-studded watch, an action many considered tone-deaf given the gravity of the situation.
