Harvest NYC Inc. has initiated a nationwide recall for its 200g packages of Enoki Mushrooms due to the risk of Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Newsweek contacted Harvest NYC Inc. on Sunday for a statement.

Why This Is Important

Contamination with Listeria represents significant health hazards, especially for at-risk groups such as young children, seniors, pregnant individuals, and those with weakened immune systems.

Infections can result in severe symptoms like high fever, intense headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea. For pregnant women, listeriosis could lead to miscarriages and stillbirths. Even healthy individuals might experience temporary symptoms after exposure to the bacteria.

Key Information

Based in Brooklyn, the company announced the recall on April 16, which the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) published on its website on April 18. The recall followed positive tests for the bacteria in samples taken from a store in Buffalo, New York, as noted by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Laboratory.

The affected products are sold in 200g green plastic containers that bear the UPC barcode 6975730520101 on the back label. These mushrooms are distributed by Hofood99 Inc. of Oakland Gardens, New York, and can be found in retail locations nationwide. The impacted mushrooms were sold between January 11-31, 2025.

Customers who have purchased these products are advised to dispose of them immediately or return them to the store for a full refund.

As of now, no illnesses have been reported in relation to the contaminated products.
