HBO’s streaming platform Max is cracking down on password sharing by allowing subscribers to add an “Extra Member” for $7.99 monthly, specifically for family members outside the household. Current subscription bundles in the U.S. include Basic with Ads for $9.99/month, Standard for $16.99/month, and Premium for $20.99/month. The Extra Member option is not available for those bundled with Disney+ and Hulu or third-party subscriptions. The added member must be at least 18, residing in the U.S., and will have their own account with full controls, but will lose access if the original account cancels.
HBO’s streaming service Max is implementing a strict policy against password sharing. You now have the option to add an “Extra Member” to your subscription for an additional $7.99 per month. This feature is specifically designed for family members living outside the same household; those who share the same home are currently exempt from this charge.
The subscription tiers that Max offers in the U.S. consist of Basic with Ads priced at $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year, Standard providing Full HD quality at $16.99 per month or $169.99 per year, and Premium that includes 4K video and Dolby Atmos audio for $20.99 per month or $209.99 per year.
The Extra Member Add-On feature is exclusively available to subscribers of the aforementioned three plans. It is not applicable to customers who have a bundle that includes Disney+ and Hulu or those who subscribe through third-party providers, such as app stores, mobile carriers, or internet and TV services.
The additional member must be at least 18 years old and must reside in the United States. They will receive their own account, password, profile, history, and all the controls available to any user. However, if the original account cancels its subscription, the extra member’s access to Max will also be terminated.
