Man Takes His Own Life as Family Claims ‘Pregnancy’ Extortion

In Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, Altaf, a tailor, died by suicide in Thane, allegedly due to blackmail by a married woman he had an affair with. He recorded videos of his distress before his death, expressing his torment and showing self-harm. His family claims the woman coerced him into giving her money, threatening false accusations and jail time if he didn’t comply. Altaf’s sister reported issues with police jurisdiction when seeking help, as both Thane and Unnao authorities deflected responsibility. Despite catching the woman and approaching the police, they received no assistance, leading to Altaf’s tragic decision.
Unnao:

A man from Unnao district in Uttar Pradesh has taken his own life in Thane, reportedly after being blackmailed by a married woman with whom he had an affair. Altaf documented his final moments on video, in which he can be seen cutting his wrists, attempting to hang himself, and ingesting poison. His family now claims that the police in Thane and Unnao are shifting blame and blaming jurisdictional conflicts.

Altaf’s family stated that he was employed as a tailor in Thane and returned home last year following his mother’s passing. Subsequently, they encouraged him to stay and work in Unnao. Not long after, he became involved with a married woman in the area. Upon discovering the affair, his family reprimanded him and sent him back to Thane.

“This woman continued to torment him even after he left. She claimed to be pregnant and requested money from him, with demands varying from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh. She threatened to file a false case against him and put him in jail. He felt he had no choice but to end his life,” said Altaf’s sister Reshma.

She further mentioned that before his death, Altaf video-called the woman to express that he was suffering because of her actions. “She responded that she has her husband and would not be affected in any way if he died.”

Four days following Altaf’s death, the Maharashtra Police notified the family. They traveled to Thane and buried him there. “We later learned that this woman had been consistently harassing and blackmailing him, which led to his tragic decision to take his own life,” stated Reshma.

She indicated that the family had reached out to the Maharashtra police, but they claimed the case fell under the jurisdiction of the Unnao police. “When we returned and went to file a complaint at the local police station, we were instructed to report it in Maharashtra instead. We even apprehended the woman and brought her to the police station, but they offered us no assistance,” she recalled.

In the videos recorded prior to his death, Altaf can be heard saying, “I will end my life this way. I have lived long enough. No more.” The footage displays his bloodied hand holding a blade.

In another clip, he states, “I am consuming rat poison. If anything happens, inform my family.” Shortly after he ingests the poison, his mouth begins to foam.

“I am not acting. I am in pain. You do not comprehend this. I am playing with my blood. This is no act,” he can be heard saying.

In footage from Unnao, the woman is heard stating, “It is not my fault.” She also claimed that she was unaware of when he consumed the poison.
