Bethesda has confirmed the long-rumored “The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered,” set to be showcased today. The game’s existence was hinted at during the FTC’s case against Microsoft, with leaked images and gameplay screenshots surfacing online. A livestream scheduled for April 22, 2025, promises to reveal more details. Oblivion initially released in 2006 and had expansions, but it’s unclear if these will be included in the remaster. The updated version features a new UI, upgraded audio, a leveling system inspired by Skyrim, and is available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Game Pass for $49.99.
After almost two years of speculation, Bethesda has officially announced the development of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, and today is the day we will get our first official glimpse of the game. This announcement comes despite the unofficial images that emerged last week from the developer’s website. Either way, Bethesda is ready to host what seems to be a livestream or to debut a trailer/showcase for the game this morning, which you can watch below.
The first official glimpse of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was revealed through documents related to the FTC’s case against Microsoft, alongside hints regarding the upcoming DOOM title. Following numerous rumors, gameplay screenshots, a side-by-side comparison with the original, and potential key art of the remaster surfaced on the Virtuos website (the studio tasked with the remastering). These images quickly circulated across the internet before being removed – you can view them right here.
At the time of the leak, several credible sources and insiders suggested that Microsoft and Bethesda might give the game a surprise release as soon as yesterday. Although that didn’t happen, Bethesda has now confirmed the remaster’s existence with a somewhat vague image featuring a prominent “IV” and text that simply states “Tomorrow, 11:00 am EST.” A link also directed fans to a YouTube livestream placeholder titled “All will be revealed….Tune in on April 22, 2025, at 11 am ET/8 am PT.”
This clearly pertains to The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, and the livestream or showcase is about to go live right below.
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, as indicated by the title, represents the fourth chapter in this long-standing series, originally launched back in 2006 for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Set in the province of Cyrodiil, Bethesda produced two expansions for the game – Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles – which were compiled into the Game of the Year Edition in 2007 and again in a 2011 re-release. There’s been no official word on whether these expansions will be included in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, but we should find out soon.
While it’s not the Elder Scrolls VI that fans have been eagerly awaiting for years since its initial announcement six years ago, it certainly is noteworthy.
The remastered version is expected to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and will also be available on Game Pass.
