With the release of iOS 18.2, Apple enabled iPhone users to set third-party apps as their default for messaging and calling. Users of the WhatsApp beta version 25.8.10.74 can now set WhatsApp as their default app for these functions, allowing calls and messages to be routed through WhatsApp when tapping on numbers in other apps. Currently, this feature is available only to select beta users, with no public release date announced. WhatsApp invites feedback on whether users would choose to make it their default app for calls and messages.

The team at WABetaInfo has disclosed that users of the beta version 25.8.10.74 of WhatsApp for iPhone can now configure WhatsApp as their default app for calling and messaging on their devices. This means that tapping on a phone number within any app will prompt WhatsApp to initiate the call or send a message, rather than defaulting to Apple’s Phone or Messages app.
This feature is currently available to a limited number of WhatsApp beta users, and there is no indication yet of when it will be made available to the public.
