Named after one of the legendary dance icons of American musical theater, the Chita Rivera Awards honor extraordinary dance and choreography throughout history and into the future. Their mission is to recognize and celebrate dance excellence, preserve significant dance history, acknowledge talent across generations, and uphold high standards in dance education while nurturing the next generation.
This year’s nominators focused on remarkable choreography, standout dancers, and ensembles from Broadway shows as well as notable choreography in film that premiered during the 2024-2025 season. The nominees for the current season will be selected by a dedicated nominating committee, with separate committees for Broadway and Film. There is also an awarding committee for Broadway, which will finalize the nominations received from the Broadway nominations committee.
The 2025 Chita Rivera Awards ceremony will take place on May 19 at 7:30pm at NYU Skirball (566 LaGuardia Place off Washington Square Park), produced by Joe Lanteri, Founder and Executive Director of the New York City Dance Alliance Foundation, Inc., alongside Patricia Watt.
