Indian table tennis icon A Sharath Kamal declared on Wednesday that the upcoming WTT Contender Chennai, scheduled for later in the month, will mark his final competition as a professional athlete, concluding a remarkable career that has spanned over two decades. The WTT (World Table Tennis) event will take place in Chennai from March 25 to 30. “I made my debut in an international tournament in Chennai, and now I will conclude my journey in the same city. This will be my last event as a professional athlete,” expressed the 42-year-old. Sharath proudly holds six gold medals from the Commonwealth Games, which he places alongside his two Asian Games bronze medals earned during his career.
He participated in his fifth and final Olympic Games in Paris last year.
“I have Commonwealth Games and Asian Games medals; however, an Olympic medal is still missing from my achievements.
“I aspire to experience that dream through the younger generations coming forward,” shared the world number 42, who remains the highest-ranked Indian in the ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) standings.
