An Indian man, Thomas Gabriel Perera, from Kerala was reportedly shot dead by Jordanian soldiers while attempting to cross into Israel illegally on February 10. His relative, Edison, also attempted the crossing and was shot but survived and was treated before being sent back to India. An Indian man has reportedly been killed by Jordanian soldiers while attempting to cross into Israel illegally, according to sources.

The deceased has been identified as Thomas Gabriel Perera, a resident of Thumba in Kerala. The incident is said to have taken place on February 10.

On Sunday, the Indian Embassy in Jordan announced that it had become aware of the “tragic loss of an Indian national under unfortunate circumstances.”

“The Embassy is coordinating with the family of the deceased and collaborating closely with Jordanian authorities to facilitate the transportation of the deceased’s remains,” it posted on X.

Perera, 47, attempted to enter Israel after arriving in Jordan on a visitor visa.

A relative, Edison, who resides in Menamkulam, also attempted to cross into Israel and was shot but managed to survive. He was repatriated to India following treatment.

The incident occurred amid rising violence in the West Bank and against the backdrop of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
