India to Send 49-Athlete Team to Special Olympics World Winter Games

India will send a 49-member contingent to the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2025 in Turin, Italy, from March 8 to 15. The team consists of 30 athletes and 19 support staff competing in six disciplines: alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, floorball, short-track speed skating, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. This edition features over 1,500 athletes and 621 coaches from 102 countries. In addition to competitions, the event will host programs like the Global Youth Leadership Summit and Healthy Athletes Screenings. India has previously accumulated 167 medals in these Games. The 12th edition of the Special Olympics World Winter Games will feature a total of eight disciplines and is anticipated to attract over 1,500 athletes, 621 coaches, and 100,000 spectators from 102 countries.

Moreover, various special programs will be conducted alongside the main event, including the Special Olympics Global Youth Leadership Summit, Healthy Athletes Screenings, and the Motor Activity Training Program, aimed at athletes, families, and spectators.

India has achieved a remarkable tally of 167 medals over the years in these Games, comprising 73 gold, 49 silver, and 45 bronze across different disciplines.

“I want to extend my best wishes to the athletes… Their determination and hard work inspire us all, and we eagerly anticipate their brilliant performances in Turin,” stated Dr. Mallika Nadda, president of Special Olympics Bharat.
