Incorporation of MS Traumatology and Surgery as Approved Pathway for MCh Specializations

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has announced that PG degree holders in Traumatology and Surgery are provisionally eligible to appear for NEET SS 2024 for MCh specialities in Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. This eligibility is subject to the approval of the Post-Graduate Medical Education (Amendment) Regulations, 2025. Applications for NEET-SS 2024 can be submitted online until February 24, 2025, with the exam scheduled for March 29-30, 2025. NEET-SS serves as the sole entrance examination for DM/MCh/DrNB Super Specialty courses in India, as mandated by law.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has issued a notification to inform medical candidates about the eligibility of PG degree holders in Traumatology and Surgery to participate in NEET SS. The Postgraduate Medical Education Board has provisionally allowed PG degree holders in Traumatology and Surgery to appear for NEET-SS 2024 for the MCh specialities in Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

However, the final selection of candidates for these specialities will depend on the approval of the “Post-Graduate Medical Education (Amendment) Regulations, 2025”, and its official publication in the Gazette of India.

An official communication from the NBEMS states, “Attention is drawn to the public notice from PGMEB-NMC, which stipulates that PG degree holders in Traumatology and Surgery are provisionally eligible to sit for NEET SS 2024 for MCh Courses in Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, pending approval of PGMER (Postgraduate Medical Education Regulation) 2025 and its announcement in the Gazette of India.”

Eligible candidates holding an MS in Traumatology and Surgery are invited to apply for NEET-SS 2024. The application form is available online at https://natboard.edu.in/viewnbeexam?exam=neetss

The NEET-SS 2024 is set to take place on March 29 and 30, 2025. The registration process for NEET-Super Specialty 2024 is currently underway and will end on February 24, 2025.

NEET-SS serves as an eligibility-cum-ranking examination, designated as the sole entrance examination for admissions to various DM/MCh and DrNB Super Specialty courses in accordance with Section 61(2) of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019. No alternative entrance examination, whether at the state or institutional level, will be accepted for entry into DM/MCh/DrNB Super Specialty courses, as specified by the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Act, 2016, effective from the 2017 admission session.
