In Kolkata Triple Homicides, Husbands of Two Victims Facing Possible Arrest

In Kolkata, police are poised to arrest the husbands of two women and a girl found dead in their home amid suspicions of murder, dismissing earlier claims of a suicide pact. The post-mortem revealed significant injuries on the women and confirmed the girl’s death by poisoning. The husbands, brothers Pranay and Prasun Dey, lived with their families in Tangra and were injured in a car accident shortly after the bodies were discovered. Investigators are examining CCTV footage and collecting forensic evidence to establish the timeline of events and determine whether external parties were involved.
Kolkata:

The husbands of the two women whose bodies, along with that of a girl, were discovered in their Kolkata home are expected to be apprehended, according to a senior officer. The decision to arrest the husbands, who are siblings, was made after post-mortem findings indicated that the two women and the girl had been murdered, dispelling rumors that the three had taken their own lives.

The three family members were found deceased in their residence in Tangra, while three others sustained injuries after their vehicle collided with a Metro Rail pillar in the city early Wednesday. One of the injured individuals informed the police about the tragic incident in their family.

Pranay and Prasun Dey, the two brothers, lived in the eastern part of Kolkata with their wives, Sudeshna and Romi. The house was also occupied by Pranay Dey’s son and Prasun Dey’s daughter.

The three individuals who were injured are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Kolkata.

“The brothers will be apprehended once they are discharged from the hospital. We are coordinating with the hospital officials. One arrest is expected on Saturday,” the officer told PTI.

One of the brothers, whose condition has improved sufficiently to allow for discharge from the hospital on Saturday, is likely to be taken into custody during the day, he added.

The post-mortem findings have prompted inquiries into who may be responsible for the crime, and Kolkata Police investigators are working to identify those involved and the motivation behind the murders of the three individuals, he stated. “We are trying to determine if the husbands were responsible for the deaths of their wives and the girl or if others outside the family played a role in the killings,” the officer explained.

The brothers had previously told the police that the family members had made a suicide pact, leading them to consume porridge laced with sleeping pills, he noted.

The autopsy on the two women revealed cut wrists and severe injury marks on their necks, suggesting they suffered fatal injuries “ante-mortem in nature.” The minor girl died from poisoning, the officer confirmed.

“It appears that the brothers were attempting to mislead us. They seem to be concealing something. We need to interrogate them,” he stated.

The health conditions of the two brothers and the boy, who were injured in the accident, are reportedly improving, the policeman mentioned.

Kolkata Police’s forensic team has gathered samples from the bathroom, washbasin, and rooms where the bodies of the two women and the girl were located, the officer indicated.

The police also collected CCTV footage from the Tangra residence, he noted, adding that “this footage will be essential in understanding their activities leading up to the crime. It will help us track who visited their home and their interactions with the family in the past week or so.”

The investigators from Kolkata Police are working to gather information on the route taken by the car involved in the accident on February 19, the officer stated.

The police have seized a set of 12 keys, mostly belonging to their Tangra residence, a bloodstained blue button found in the backseat of the car, and several bloodstains from inside the vehicle. The investigators have discovered that the family operates a tannery business and has been experiencing financial difficulties.
