I Preferred It Over WWE; It Felt More Authentic

Adam Devine expressed his preference for AEW over WWE after an impressive experience at AEW Revolution, where he made a surprise appearance during the pre-show. He and Tony Cavalero performed a double choke slam on Mansoor, thrilling the audience. Devine found AEW’s style “more raw,” reminiscent of late 1990s WCW, praising the intense matches and bloodshed, particularly the bout between Toni Storm and Mariah May. He described the event as insane and enjoyable, noting the atmosphere and the camaraderie among wrestlers. Devine is currently promoting the fourth and final season of “The Righteous Gemstones” on HBO and Max.

Adam Devine has publicly stated that he favors AEW over WWE following a thrilling showcase at AEW Revolution earlier this month.

The star of The Righteous Gemstones made an unexpected appearance at the show, even stepping into the ring during the pre-show. Adam Devine and Tony Cavalero entered the ring during the AEW Revolution Zero Hour, which followed a fun match where Orange Cassidy, Big Boom AJ, and Mark Briscoe triumphed over MxM Collection and Johnny TV.

Devine and Cavalero delivered a double choke slam to Mansoor, sending the crowd into a frenzy and solidifying the Pitch Perfect star’s admiration for AEW.

In a conversation on This Is Important, Adam Devine shared that AEW felt more “raw” compared to WWE, comparing it to WCW during the late ’90s. He praised the intense nature of the matches, specifically mentioning the standout encounter between Toni Storm and Mariah May.

Adam Devine on AEW Revolution

“I had no idea it would be such an insane event. Those guys really put on a show. It feels just as intense, honestly, I enjoyed it more than WWE events,” Devine remarked (H/T Fightful). “It’s reminiscent of WCW in the late ’90s, someone really trying to rival WWE.”

“It was much more raw. There was a cage match with people bleeding everywhere—real blood. I was ringside. Blood is back. It was wild. They were dumping thumbtacks all over the ring. From the very top of the cage, they were flipping guys into the thumbtacks. Insane. Then you go backstage, and they were real thumbtacks. He was still pulling them out of himself. ‘One is stuck in my heel. I can’t get it out,’” Devine recounted.

When asked about his thoughts on the bloodshed, Devine responded, “I never thought I’d crave it, but now I do. It was phenomenal. It was off the charts. [Toni vs. Mariah] was a bloodbath. The guys in the cage match attacked each other with a screwdriver. I was thinking, ‘How do you fake that? Oh, it’s rubber.’ Then they stick it in the turnbuckle, and it just lodges right in. It was nuts. It was incredibly fun. Everyone was super nice. Tony Khan, the AEW owner, is the same guy whose box I was in at the Super Bowl. We went out partying that night. He’s a genuinely nice guy who owns AEW. It was a great time. A blast.”

The Righteous Gemstones is currently airing its fourth and final season on HBO and Max.
