Heavy rain expected tonight, likely disruption to tomorrow’s morning commute – Chris

Showers and thunderstorms are developing in western Minnesota and will move east overnight, bringing heavy rainfall into Tuesday morning. Expect 2-3 inches of rain along and south of I-94, beneficial for lawns and streams but challenging for outdoor plans and commuting. Northern Minnesota will receive little rain, which is concerning given ongoing wildfires. Tuesday will be cool with highs in the 40s and gusty winds. Showers will persist into Wednesday, followed by drier conditions later in the week but cooler temperatures. A chance of showers returns by the weekend. Keep an umbrella handy and plan for longer commutes.

Happy Monday evening

Showers and thunderstorms are beginning to form across western Minnesota this evening and will gradually move east throughout the night. For many residents, this is turning into a consistent and heavy rainfall event that is expected to persist well into Tuesday.

Heavy rain is anticipated overnight and during the Tuesday morning commute. If you’re venturing out early, make sure to allocate extra time. Roads will be wet, visibility reduced, and standing water may further slow traffic. Areas along and south of I-94 are forecasted to receive two to three inches of essential rainfall. This is fantastic news for lawns, gardens, and local streams, but not ideal if you have outdoor plans or need to commute across the area.

Sadly, the rain will bypass regions that are in dire need. Northern Minnesota, where wildfires are still active, is expected to receive little to no moisture from this system.

Temperatures will also play a role. Tuesday is likely to be cool and brisk, with highs barely reaching the 40s and winds making it feel even colder. Rain will persist on Wednesday, keeping conditions damp and chilly into the middle of the week.

We should start to see some drying on Thursday and Friday, although temperatures will remain below seasonal norms. A slight chance for showers may return by the weekend, but nothing widespread is expected.

Make sure to keep your umbrella handy, allow extra time for commutes, and enjoy the soothing sounds of the much-needed rain tonight.
