New Delhi:
The sudden passing of Gene Hackman has left many, especially in the entertainment industry, reeling. Recently, actor and comedian Bill Murray paid homage to the beloved star.
Murray, who collaborated with Hackman, referred to him as one of the greatest actors of his time. He also reminisced about Hackman’s challenging demeanor while working together, particularly during the 2001 film The Royal Tenenbaums, which was directed by Wes Anderson.
“Gene was quite demanding with Wes, and I often found myself stepping in to support my friend,” Murray recalled. He acknowledged that, despite his challenging nature, Hackman was an exceptional talent. Bill recounted an instance where Hackman delivered several impeccable takes, only to become irritated when another actor achieved it in one go. “I thought Gene was going to toss the guy off the building ledge,” he joked, all the while recognizing Hackman’s extraordinary abilities as an actor.
According to police reports, Gene and his wife Betsy Arakawa were discovered dead at their home in Santa Fe on Wednesday, along with their dog.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths, although foul play is currently not suspected. The situation has been labeled “suspicious,” prompting a comprehensive inquiry to ascertain the cause.
Hackman, at 93, and his 68-year-old wife were located in different parts of their home by two maintenance workers. Arakawa was found lying on the bathroom floor next to an open prescription pill bottle, while Hackman’s body was in the mudroom adjacent to the kitchen, with his sunglasses nearby. A deceased dog was also found near Arakawa, while two other dogs were discovered alive on the property.
The investigation showed no signs of forced entry, and emergency personnel reported no evidence of gas leaks or carbon monoxide issues. Detectives stated that the bodies exhibited signs of decomposition, and it appeared that the couple had fallen to the ground. Arakawa’s body showed indications of bloating and mummification, while Hackman’s displayed similar signs.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office has obtained a search warrant for the residence as they continue to probe into the details surrounding the deaths. No traumatic injuries were present on either body, and toxicology and carbon monoxide tests are being conducted to provide further insights into the cause.
Authorities are approaching the deaths with caution but have yet to release additional information. The investigation remains ongoing.
