Google Photos celebrates its tenth anniversary by introducing new features, including a redesigned editor that offers AI-driven suggestions and allows users to edit specific areas of images. This new editor will roll out globally on Android next month and on iOS later this year. Users can now share albums via QR codes and use a Places feature for geographic organization of photos. Enhanced search capabilities let users find images without specific keywords, and the app can automatically generate monthly and yearly recaps. Further customization options allow users to hide certain content and personalize their viewing experience.

Among them is a revamped editor that offers helpful suggestions, including AI-generated ideas that combine various effects. Users can tap on any area of an image to receive tailored suggestions for that section. The Reimagine and Auto Frame options are conveniently located next to brightness and contrast controls. This new editor will start rolling out globally next month on Android, with iOS following later this year.

Additionally, users can now share albums via QR codes and create personal montages for sharing. The new Places feature, found under the collections tab, allows users to revisit locations they’ve been to, with photos displayed geographically on an interactive map.
Search functionality has improved, enabling users to express exactly what they’re looking for without the need for specific keywords. Google recommends naming the faces in your photos for optimal results. Furthermore, the app now allows users to delete items that are already backed up, helping to free up space on their devices.
Google Photos will continue to automatically generate Best of Month and Year-End Recaps, allowing for personalization in your grid. Users can choose to stack similar pictures taken close together, or hide screenshots, GIFs, and memes. In terms of customization, users can also conceal specific people, pets, or dates, and opt for either time-based or themed memories.
