Samsung’s first Android XR headset, Project Moohan, was announced last December and showcased at the Galaxy Unpacked event without a specific launch date. However, Google revealed during its Google I/O 2025 keynote that the headset will be available for purchase later this year. The exact name might change, and it will be the first Android XR device featuring “Gemini by your side.” Built in collaboration with Samsung and optimized for Snapdragon, the project has attracted hundreds of developers since last year’s developer preview. It will be powered by the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip.
Last December, Samsung unveiled its inaugural Android XR headset, known as Project Moohan. The device was later presented at the Galaxy Unpacked event in January, though the Korean company did not specify a launch timeline. While we still await a confirmed release date, Google has announced that Project Moohan will be available for purchase later this year.
This announcement came during Google’s keynote at the Google I/O 2025 event yesterday. They also indicated that Samsung’s Project Moohan — which may not be the final name — will mark the debut of the first Android XR device, featuring “Gemini by your side.”
Furthermore, Google stated that Android XR was collaboratively developed with Samsung and optimized for Snapdragon in partnership with Qualcomm. Since the developer preview launched last year, hundreds of developers have been working on this platform.
While details about Project Moohan remain scarce from both Samsung and Google, it is set to be powered by the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip.
