Ghaziabad Woman Claims Gang-Rape, Detained After Allegations Proven Untrue

A woman in Ghaziabad has been arrested for making false allegations of rape, gang-rape, and kidnapping against her husband, Vikas Tyagi, and his friends. Despite multiple complaints and changing statements, her latest claim was deemed unsubstantiated after police investigation revealed inconsistencies and evidence contradicting her allegations. Tyagi, who also faced charges and is currently jailed, had been accused by her of various offenses, including rape and attempted murder. However, surveillance footage and medical examinations suggested her claims were fabricated, leading to her arrest. Authorities suspect her motives may be related to living arrangements in Tyagi’s flat.

A woman has been apprehended in Ghaziabad for repeatedly making accusations of rape, gang-rape, and kidnapping against her spouse, who was previously her live-in partner, along with his associates. Authorities stated that her most recent allegation was deemed false, and she had altered her statements multiple times in earlier incidents. Her husband is currently incarcerated following one of her complaints.

Officials reported that the woman lodged three complaints and filed three first information reports (FIRs), changing her statements numerous times, even submitting requests to withdraw her complaints. Police indicated that her latest FIR, in which she claimed she was gang-raped by her husband’s friends and subjected to the insertion of a bottle in her private parts, was proven to be untrue, resulting in her arrest on Friday.

Series Of Allegations

In June of the previous year, the woman, who had been in a live-in relationship with Vikas Tyagi, a resident of Kavi Nagar in Ghaziabad, accused him of raping her under the guise of marriage. She stated she was pregnant at the time, and that the child had perished due to the sexual assault and because Tyagi had kicked her in the abdomen.

She reiterated her accusations in her initial statement but shifted her narrative when her testimony was being recorded before a judicial magistrate, according to officials. In her second statement, she asserted that the relationship was consensual and that Tyagi had only physically abused her, but that they had reached an agreement outside the court on that matter. She also claimed that she had miscarried due to not adhering to her doctor’s advice.

In August, the woman approached law enforcement again, stating that she had altered her testimony in the June incident because Tyagi, his brother-in-law, and a friend had threatened her life if she did not comply. A police statement revealed that she later submitted an application that month claiming she had married Tyagi and requested that the actions on her earlier complaint be halted. She also shared a video affirming the same.

Husband Jailed

Four months later, in January, she filed further complaints and another FIR alleging that Tyagi and her mother had conducted their wedding in a problematic manner, claiming he had raped her under the pretense of marriage. Additionally, she stated Tyagi had assaulted her and attempted to set her on fire by pouring alcohol over her, later alleging that she was gang-raped by him and two of his friends.

While investigations revealed that the gang-rape claims were unfounded, her medical report indicated evidence of burn injuries. Tyagi was arrested on February 17 and remains in custody.

On Tuesday, the woman made her most severe accusation yet, alleging that three of Tyagi’s friends abducted her while she was heading to the market, rendered her unconscious by injecting her with a substance, and took turns sexually assaulting her. She claimed they also applied a chemical to her neck, inserted a bottle into her private parts, and discarded her on a rubbish heap near Mehrauli Gate.

She insisted that the incident occurred on Monday. However, upon reviewing CCTV footage, police found that she left her residence around 8:30 PM, entered a vehicle afterward, and was returned home by 10:19 PM. She was observed walking normally to her apartment.

Moreover, the call logs and location data of Tyagi’s friends, who were implicated by her, indicated that they were not present at the cited crime scene. During her medical evaluation, the chemical she alleged was poured on her neck seemed to have been applied with cotton.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Kumar Singh stated, “We received the gang-rape complaint on February 25. Upon investigation and conducting a medical examination, we established that the FIR against her husband’s friends was fabricated and motivated by personal interest. She has previously filed several complaints and applications, and her husband is currently in jail regarding one of them… The woman has now been arrested.”

When asked about the potential motive, Mr. Singh commented, “The woman has been residing in Tyagi’s apartment since the inception of their relationship. The motive could be linked to the flat.”
