Former AAP Leader and Dentist Joins Rekha Gupta’s Team in New Delhi Alongside Five Others

The new Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, includes six cabinet ministers, notably former AAP leader Kapil Mishra. The ministers appointed by President Droupadi Murmu are BJP MLAs: Parvesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh. They will be sworn in at a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Modi. Verma is a two-time MP, Mishra is a former AAP member, Sirsa represents the Sikh community, Sood is a leader in the Punjabi community, Singh is a dentist, and Indraj is a Dalit leader.

The Delhi government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, will feature six cabinet ministers, including former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Kapil Mishra. A notification from the Union Home Ministry on Thursday confirmed that President Droupadi Murmu appointed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh as ministers in the Delhi government at the recommendation of Ms Gupta.

The ministers will take their oaths alongside Ms Gupta during a significant ceremony at the Ramlila Ground, which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other esteemed guests later in the day.

Below are the six ministers in Rekha Gupta’s new Delhi administration:

Parvesh Verma

Parvesh Verma, a two-time BJP MP, previously defeated AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi constituency. Mr. Verma is a prominent Jat leader in the national capital.

Born on November 7, 1977, he is the son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma. He graduated from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University, and later received an MBA from the Fore School of Management.

Mr. Verma is married to Swati Singh, the daughter of former Union Minister and BJP leader from Madhya Pradesh, Vikram Verma. They have three children.

Kapil Mishra

Kapil Mishra, a former AAP member, secured victory in the Karawal Nagar constituency on a BJP ticket. Born on November 13, 1980, in Delhi, he is the son of Annapurna Mishra, a former East Delhi mayor, and Rameshwar Mishra, a socialist politician. He completed his education at Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College.

He served as Delhi’s water resources minister in Arvind Kejriwal’s government. In 2017, he was dismissed from the cabinet and joined the BJP in 2019.

He faced allegations of making hate speeches during the communal riots in Delhi in 2020.

Manjinder Singh Sirsa

Manjinder Singh Sirsa represents the Sikh community within the BJP. He emerged victorious in the 2025 Delhi assembly elections from the Rajouri Garden.

A three-time MLA, Mr. Sirsa was previously affiliated with the Shiromani Akali Dal.

Ashish Sood

Ashish Sood is a recognizable figure in Delhi’s Punjabi community. Born on September 2, 1966, Mr. Sood is a first-time MLA from Janakpuri and has senior leadership experience gained during the BJP’s administration in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

He has also served as the vice president of the BJP’s Delhi unit.

Additionally, he oversees BJP’s operations in Goa and is co-in-charge for the party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit.

Pankaj Kumar Singh

Pankaj Kumar Singh is a first-time MLA from Vikaspuri representing the BJP.

A leader from the Purvanchal community, Mr. Singh is a dentist by profession.

Ravinder Indraj Singh

Ravinder Indraj Singh is BJP’s Dalit leader and achieved victory in the Bawana (SC) seat, winning by over 31,000 votes.

He has also held an executive position in BJP’s Scheduled Caste Morcha.
