Exclusive: Amish Tripathi Discusses Elon Musk’s Absence from Maha Kumbh Mela 2025

Amish Tripathi, a notable author, invited Elon Musk to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, which Musk found fascinating due to its significance as the largest gathering for religious and cultural purposes. Tripathi revealed that Musk’s schedule, particularly his new role in the U.S. government, prevented him from attending. Musk was captivated by the event’s scale, originally projected at 415 million attendees and now estimated at around 500 million, as well as the longevity of the Kumbh tradition, which spans millennia. He was also intrigued by its spiritual aspects linked to planetary movements, especially the timing associated with Jupiter.
New Delhi:

Amish Tripathi, a well-known author and spiritual thinker, recently reached out to tech giant Elon Musk, inviting him to this year’s Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

During an exclusive interview with NDTV’s Hardika Gupta, Amish shared that Elon found the festival “fascinating,” particularly the concept of it being the largest gathering of individuals for religious and cultural purposes.

He stated, “I invited Elon Musk to the Kumbh Mela. He expressed at that moment that he was extremely intrigued by the festival and all its details. The Maha Kumbh represents the largest congregation of humanity ever, and the fact that Indians have gathered in this way for religious and cultural reasons for millennia—people from every age group—captures the fascination of many, including Elon.”

Discussing the reason for Tesla CEO’s absence from the Maha Kumbh, Amish mentioned, “His office later communicated with us, but due to his already busy schedule, particularly because of his new role in the US government, he won’t be able to make it.”

Elon Musk was captivated by the enormity of the Kumbh Mela, which attracts millions from across the globe. Tripathi shared, “Elon was intrigued by the scale of the event—415 million people. That was the figure when we first talked about it, but it seems to be growing to around 500 million now. If it were an independent nation, it could potentially be the third-largest country on Earth, just the Maha Kumbh alone.”

Elon also marveled at the enduring nature of the Kumbh tradition, which has been upheld uninterrupted for millennia. “The fact that Indians have celebrated and gathered for the Kumbh for thousands of years, without fail, is remarkable. It’s an unbroken tradition of long standing, while many other cultures have failed to maintain their traditions. That captivated him as well.”

The tech mogul was further intrigued by the spiritual aspects of the Kumbh Mela, particularly its relationship with planetary movements. Tripathi concluded, “He was also fascinated by the connections to the planets. I explained how the timing of the Kumbh is actually tied to the planet Jupiter, which piqued his interest, and naturally, the spiritual elements of the event also captured his attention.”
